Summer starts at the bus stop! From family fun-filled days out to exploring world-famous locations with friends, your summer adventure by bus has never been easier thanks to contactless.
For adults our ‘Tap On Tap Off’ contactless service is the simplest way to pay. Just tap your card once on the ticket machine when you board, and once on the tap-off reader when you step off the bus at your destination.
And if you’re ticking off a list of must-visit locations this summer, you may be eligible for our daily or weekly price capping when you travel frequently with us.
What’s more, the national £3 fare cap is in place until December 2026, meaning you can travel anywhere across the Metrobus network for just £3 per single journey!
If you’re looking for summer days out inspiration, our mobile app also has over 11,000 locations to search for, with live bus information, travel alerts and contactless journeys all in one place.
And if you still can’t choose, here are some of our recommendations.
To the beach
Tap on and take your adventure to the seaside this summer!
Visit Worthing on the recently-improved Metrobus routes 23 and 23X and sail through the heart of the seaside town this summer.
Worthing Pier is the town’s must-visit location and is situated close to Metrobus bus stops. The attraction features unique local artwork and highly-rated restaurants.
Afterwards, take a stroll along the picturesque 5-mile promenade, with seafood spots, cafes and step back in time with a visit to Worthing Lido.
Or, tap on to routes 270, 271, 272 and 273 and tap off in bustling Brighton! So much more than just a seaside city, the cultural metropolis hosts endless itineraries for a great day out.
From beachfront restaurants, independent record stores, and iconic attractions, Brighton is a perfect location for those who value exploring and want to enjoy a day out with friends for less. With a huge array of unique stores, you can shop to your heart’s content in Brighton’s Lanes and North Laine. Enjoy a delicious lunch, grab a coffee, or simply take in the sights at Pavilion gardens.
You can also tap on to the brand-new route 500 to Eastbourne this summer and explore everything the postcard-perfect coastal town has to offer. Enjoy a stroll along Eastbourne’s restored Victorian pier and relax with an afternoon tea, play in the arcades, or tuck into the classic seaside delicacy - fish and chips!
Extend your Eastbourne adventure with hikes to several surrounding beauty spots featuring world-famous views. From Seven Sisters to Beachy Head Eastbourne and the surrounding areas are perfect for walking, bird-watching and foraging.
To the great outdoors
And if you’ve already conquered just one of the many walks Eastbourne has to offer this summer, why not explore the great outdoors elsewhere across our network?
In addition to Eastbourne, you can tap on to the route 500, 270 or 291 and visit the unique heathland of Ashdown Forest. With over 6,500 acres to explore, the enchanting area is a site of special scientific interest and lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
You can also visit the village of Hartfield on route 291, the home of Pooh Corner. The much-loved location has an endearing gift shop, tea room and museum dedicated to all things Winnie the Pooh.
What’s more, if you show your bus ticket, you’ll receive an exclusive Metrobus postcard and guide map to the area before you stroll into the real 100 Acre Wood of Ashdown Forest to play pooh sticks and spot hidden characters from the classic children’s books.
If you tap on to route 272 this summer, be sure to tap off at wonderful Wakehurst. Explore over 500 acres of diverse landscape in Sussex’s wild botanic garden. Enjoy 50% off adult admission with proof of bus travel and start the adventure seven days a week thanks to Metrobus’ new Sunday service.
Reigate (routes 460, 430 and 435) is also a must-visit location by bus this summer if you’re looking to tap into an outside adventure.
With ample parks and green spaces as part of the North Downs, there are endless outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy. Children (and adults!) can let their imagination run wild in the adventure playground with a giant wooden pirate ship, double zip wire and seasonal splash pads.
Step back in time and walk through Reigate Castle grounds and visit the beautiful Grade 1 listed Reigate Priory surrounded by 65 acres of open parkland with plenty of space to enjoy a picnic by the pond and spot kingfishers, kestrels and song thrushes. Adventure into the Priory and view exhibitions and period costumes at the historic Reigate Priory Museum.
