Dementia Action Week

Dementia Action Week (18th - 24th May 2026) is an annual awareness campaign led by Alzheimer’s Society, bringing people and organisations together to act on dementia.
At Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus, we’re committed to making our buses accessible for all through co-production and co-design, embedding lived experience at every stage.
This year for Dementia Action Week, we are proud to celebrate our long-standing commitment to accessibility and share the story of our dementia-friendly seating moquette, co-designed and co-produced with Alzheimer’s Society Horsham Rusty Brains Dementia Voice Group.
The moquette, now featured across 16 brand-new electric buses in Brighton and Hove, was developed alongside Horsham Rusty Brains by those with lived experience of dementia. The development process included a workshop in Horsham with the Brighton & Hove Buses team and Rusty Brains group, sharing design concepts, colours and sample materials.
The Dementia Voice Group works together to influence Alzheimer’s Society and other organisations at all levels, meaning members living with dementia make a difference locally, regionally and nationally. Their headquarters can be found at Brighton Road Baptist Church, a short walk from stops at Wellington Road and Oakhill, Elm Grove.
At Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus, all of our drivers and front line colleagues are Dementia Friends which means they are able to provide more support and assistance to people living with, or affected by dementia. Our Travel Hub in Crawley is also part of the Safe Haven Scheme.
