RSCH & PRH Ticketing Information

Select staff and patients are eligible for free travel between the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Inter-site passes

Inter-site staff passes are issued on key cards and are normally provided to staff who are travelling from the site they are based at to a different site as a one off visit. For example, a consultant based at Royal Sussex County Hospital travelling to Princess Royal Hospital and back to see a patient for an appointment.

 Cards are issued by the hospital staff should the employee concerned be eligible for it. If you think you are eligible, please speak to your manager or the facilities department at your hospital.

They are valid for boarding and alighting on routes 270, 271 & 272 at the following stops only:

- Royal Sussex County Hospital

- Old Steine

- Nestor Court by Preston Park for the Park Centre for Breast Care

- Princess Royal Hospital

Holders of these passes can use Brighton & Hove bus services 1, 1X and 7 for free transfer between Royal Sussex County Hospital and Old Steine when connecting to or from route 270 buses. They cannot use any other stop for connecting journeys.

Commuting passes

Commuting passes are issued on key cards. They are normally provided to staff based at a qualifying NHS site to travel to and from work each day. The member of staff may need to make a contribution towards the cost of the cards via their employer, but travel on buses thereafter would be provided free on most days of the week. The cards are retained by the holder as they are designed for use each day. If you think you are eligible, please speak to your manager or the facilities department at your hospital.

Commuting passes are valid for boarding and alighting at any stop in the following sections of route:

- Route 270 between Brighton and Perrymount Road (Haywards Heath)

- Route 271 between Brighton and Cuckfield

- Route 272 between Brighton and Perrymount Road

Holders of these passes can use Brighton & Hove bus services 1, 1X and 7 for free transfer between Royal Sussex County Hospital and Old Steine when connecting to or from route 270 buses.

Appointment letters, e-mails and text messages

Free travel is provided to hospital patients plus a companion in possession of an in-date hospital letter, email or text message. The date of the appointment must be the same as the date the person is travelling. They are valid for boarding and alighting at all stops in the following sections of route:

- Route 270, 271, 272 between Brighton and Perrymount Road (Haywards Heath)

Training or induction letters, e-mail and text messages

Free travel is provided to hospital employees in possession of an in-date training letter, induction letter, email or text message. The date of the training/induction must be the same as the date the person is travelling. It is not necessary to show hospital ID in this case.

They are valid for boarding and alighting at all stops in the following sections of route:

- Route 270, 271, 272 between Brighton and Perrymount Road

Medical School students

Free travel is provided as follows to Brighton and Sussex Medical School Students presenting the pass above:

- Route 270 between Brighton and Perrymount Road

- Route 271 between Brighton and Cuckfield

- Route 272 between Brighton and Perrymount Road

Cards specifically marked ‘Medical Student’ are valid. For example, Midwife or student doctor passes would not be valid for travel.
