Routes 270 and 291 serve sections of the forest giving visitors access to walks in the woodlands and valleys and through the gorse and heather of the heathland. Managed pathways guide visitors through this vast area that has become a refuge for many threatened species of wildlife.
If you like to explore nature on foot, then you can get off at the Roebuck Hotel bus stop, and take one of the marked footpaths leading off the access road opposite Wych Cross Place. Alternatively you could walk just under a mile along the scenic Colemans Hatch Road to the Ashdown Forest Visitors Centre.
