Student Fares & Tickets
Student Travel - for those 16 and over, in full time education and those on Apprenticeship Programmes
Full time students aged 16 and over can get 25% off adult fares on Metrovoyager, Crawley Metrorider and Horsham Metrorider tickets.
To get the discount, students need to register for a Student key smartcard, which is free, from our Travel Shop at Crawley Bus Station or Redhill Bus Station.
Proof of full-time student status is needed when registering such as College ID or proof of confirmed enrolment.
The Student key card can be topped up with discounted tickets online or at the Metrobus travel shops in Crawley or Redhill.
The Student 25% discount is not available as cash on the bus or on our m-ticket app.
Please note that discounted tickets cannot be purchased from PayPoint outlets.
The discounted student key card includes those on Apprenticeship Programmes. Registering for the student key card is the same for apprentices - go to one of our travel shops with proof of enrolment onto an Apprenticeship Programme - either an ID card or a letter of enrolment/acceptance on to an Apprenticeship Programme. An apprenticeship course should be registered, which you can check here - click on 'Download CSV'.
Some discounted bus travel for students depends on the County in which you live:
Surrey
Holders of a 16-20 Surrey Link Card are able to purchase a single journey capped at £1.00, and a return capped at £2.00 on any route which is not primarily for transport to or from school. These tickets will be available from the bus driver on boarding the bus, and can be purchased either with cash or with a contactless payment card.
As these tickets are only available on routes which are not primarily for school transport, they are not available for sale on routes 324, 609, 611, 612, 617, 619, 624, 657, 658, 695 or 866. On these routes, holders of 16-20 Surrey Link cards can travel for child fares purchased from the driver.
Link cards are only issued to Under 21s living in Surrey, and can be used for any trip that starts, ends, or is wholly within the Surrey County Council area.

East Sussex
14-18 year-olds living in East Sussex are able to get a card which allows the purchase of a Freedom ticket from the driver on routes 270 & 291 for £15.00 per week. This is accepted for travel on most buses in East Sussex and on routes 270 & 291 (for journeys starting or finishing in East Sussex).
Anyone aged 14-18 will need proof of age to buy one, but do not need to be attending school or college to use.
West Sussex
Anyone aged 16 to 20 can now purchase a 16 to 20 Bus Saver fare or ticket, which is the same price as the existing child rate. The scheme applies to any direct bus journey starting or finishing in West Sussex.

Before travelling, make sure to bring a valid proof of age. As an alternative to carrying official documents like passports and birth certificates, Citizencard will also be accepted.
