Fares, Tickets and Pass Information

Full details of all tickets and passes available on Metrobus services (outside the London area) can be found on this page.

Fares Guide
The adult single fare on journeys wholly within Crawley & Horley or Redhill & Reigate is £1.50, with some 'short hop' journeys being £1.20. Outside of these areas, a graduated fare scale applies.


Return tickets are available on most Metrobus services (except those operating wholly within the Crawley, Horley, Redhill, Reigate or Brighton areas), offering a discount over purchasing two single tickets.

These tickets are only valid for return travel on the day of purchase, between the same points as on the outward trip. Journeys cannot be broken.


Children aged under 5 travel free, subject to a maximum of two children per adult. Child fares will be charged for any additional under 5s.

Children aged 5-13 inclusive travel at half rate at all times, except as follows:
  • On schooldays, child fares are not available before 0900 on routes 291 (on journeys starting and/or finishing between Groombridge Hill Top and Tunbridge Wells only), 303 and 636
14 and 15 year-olds travelling to or from school in uniform will be charged half fare. 14 and 15 year-olds may also obtain half fare at other times by showing one of the following forms of identification:
  • 14/15 Citizencard. These are available from www.citizencard.net
  • Transport for London child Oyster card
  • Passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Brighton & Hove Bus ID card
  • Arriva or Stagecoach 14/15 ID card

Children living in West Sussex can apply for a '3 in 1' card by visiting www.yourspacewestsussex.co.uk.

3 in 1 card holders can purchase single, return and weekly 'point-to-point' tickets on journeys starting and/or finishing in West Sussex at half the usual child rate and Crawley area Metrorider or Metrovoyager passes at half the usual child prices.

Students aged between 16 and 18 and living in Surrey can apply for a Surrey Student Fare Card, or those living in West Sussex can apply for a '3 in 1' Student card. These enable the purchase of discounted season tickets online.

Surrey Student Card holders who can purchase half rate single, return and weekly ‘point-to-point’ tickets (but not Metroriders or Metrovoyagers) on journeys starting and/or finishing in Surrey.
3 in 1 card holders can purchase half rate single, return and weekly 'point-to-point' tickets on journeys starting and/or finishing in West Sussex and half rate Crawley area Metrorider or Metrovoyager passes.

Full time East Sussex students aged 16-19 are able to purchase a Pathfinder ticket on routes 270 & 291 for £10 per week, which is accepted for travel on most buses in East Sussex. To buy one you need a Choice+ iD card. To apply, visit www.eastsussex.gov.uk/roadsandtransport/public/concessionaryfares.


Metroriders offer unlimited travel on Metrobus services within the relevant zone(s), except on routes operated under contract to London Buses (64, 119, 127, 130, 138, 146, 161, 181, 246, 261, 284, 320, 336, 352, 353, 354, 356, 358, 359, 367, 405, 434, 464, 466, B14, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R11, T32, T33 & X26).

They are issued and accepted in the following areas: (click here to view map of areas available)
  • Crawley - valid in Crawley borough area plus Fastway 20 throughout and route 100 as far as Horley Row Benhams Drive
  • Redhill & Reigate
  • Surrey - valid throughout Surrey and Crawley

One day, evening and weekly Metroriders are available from the bus driver. Weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual Metroriders are available from our travel shops at Crawley and Redhill bus stations. Monthly, quarterly and annual Metroriders are also available online.

Weekly and monthly Metrorider tickets are now available from PayPoint outlets across our operating area. Visit www.paypoint.co.uk/locator to find you nearest outlet.

Quarterly and annual Metroriders require a photocard. Please take a passport-sized photograph with you to a Metrobus travel shop or apply by post using this application form.

Metrorider tickets are valid until 0359 on the day after the expiry date shown.

Evening Metrorider tickets are available from 1800 and are valid until 0359 on the following day.


Metrovoyagers offer unlimited travel on Metrobus services, except on routes operated under contract to London Buses (64, 119, 127, 130, 138, 146, 161, 181, 233, 246, 261, 284, 320, 336, 352, 353, 354, 356, 358, 359, 367, 405, 434, 464, 466, B14, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8, R9, R11, T32, T33 & X26).

Weekly tickets are available on most of our buses, giving unlimited travel between two points for seven days. They are not issued on journeys wholly within the Crawley, Horley, Redhill or Reigate areas, where a Metrorider ticket should be purchased instead. A Metrorider ticket may also be cheaper than a season ticket for certain journeys within Surrey.

Season tickets valid for a period between four weeks and a year can also be purchased for most routes, except on journeys wholly within the Crawley, Horley, Redhill or Reigate areas. These can be purchased online or by visiting our travel shops at Crawley and Redhill bus stations.


PLUSBUS allows you to add bus travel around town to your train ticket, saving money and being more convenient than buying a separate ticket on the bus. Ask for PLUSBUS when buying your train ticket at the station (or by telephone).

Metrobus routes feature in PLUSBUS schemes covering the Crawley & Gatwick (including Ifield, Three Bridges & Horley), Redhill & Reigate, Haywards Heath and Tunbridge Wells areas.

If you work at Gatwick Airport, you can make considerable savings by buying a Gatwick Travelcard. These are accepted on all Metrobus routes which serve Crawley or Gatwick and are available for periods of a month (£42) or a year (£420).

A special photocard is required to purchase a Gatwick Travelcard (the standard Metrobus photocard is not acceptable). To get yours or purchase a Travelcard, visit the Train Tickets desk in Arrivals at South Terminal (open from 0630 until 2100 Monday to Saturday and from 0730 until 2100 on Sundays), or our travel shops in Crawley or Redhill. You will need to show your airside ID or a letter from your employer proving that you work at Gatwick Airport.

If you already have a photocard you can purchase your Travelcard online.


Explorer tickets are useful for anyone wishing to travel on several different services in one day, or for using other operators’ buses.

Buy your Explorer from your Metrobus driver and it will be accepted for travel on all local bus services in West Sussex (except those operated by community groups and National Express), as well as on most services operated by:
  • Metrobus (except services operated on behalf of London Buses)
  • Arriva Southern Counties
  • Brighton & Hove
  • Coastal Coaches

  • Countryliner
  • Eastbourne Buses

Prices may vary on other operators’ buses. Please check with the relevant operator before travelling to ensure that they will accept an Explorer ticket on the service(s) that you wish to use.


Holders of National concession scheme passes receive free travel, subject to time restrictions. For details on obtaining a pass please visit the following links:

Free travel is provided on our Crawley Asda service, plus Tesco routes 901, 911-917 & 921 for passengers travelling to or from the stores.
