Metrobus took over operation of London Buses route 75 from 25th April and route 54 from 2nd May. Thirty new Scania double deck buses with Optare Olympus bodywork (to be numbered 870-899) are due to be delivered from the end of May. Dennis Tridents have been hired from the previous operator, ELBG, to cover the service in the meantime. Details of these buses can be found in the fleet list. Metrobus has also been successful in retaining the contract to operate route 64 from August 2009; 16 further Scania Omnicity double deck buses (to be numbered 958-973) have been ordered to replace the existing vehicles later this year.
A batch of 15 10.7m MAN single decks with MCV Evolution bodywork are now in service on route 202 from Croydon depot. These followed three other MAN 14.240 single deck vehicles which were delivered at the end of last year for route T32. Further Omnidekkas and a 10.7m Dart/Plaxton were released from service in London by these new vehicles and will be progressively introduced at Crawley following refurbishment.
At Crawley, the original Fastway Scania Omnicity buses on routes 10 and 20 have been replaced by the arrival of a batch of 14 new 12m Omnicities. Most displaced buses will be refurbished for use on other Crawley services but 5 will transfer to Croydon to replace hired buses on route X26. One of the former Fastway vehicles now repainted red is pictured below.
Late in 2009 the last Volvo Olympians should be replaced once the new route 64 buses (see above) release further Omnidekkas. By the end of 2009 the Crawley fleet should be entirely low floor and every bus should be fitted with digital destination and real-time information equipment.
